Hearty beef stew

A family beef stew recipe.

Ok there is no better comfort food than Beef Stew. This recipe is easy to make. It will make your house smell like you cooked all day.

This is a recipe you will love tasting as you make it. You will feel like a chef as you master the flavour to your liking.

Hearty Beef Stew
This will make 5 large bowls of stew:

Ready a large pot on the stove. I love my large Paula Deen cookpot. The non-stick pot prevents burning.

This is your recipe list:

  • 1/2 Cup Flour

  • 1/2 Tsp Salt

  • 1/2 Tsp Pepper

  • 3 Pounds of Stewing Beef (Cubed)

  • 1 Tbls Oil

  • 3 Cups Potatoes Cubed

  • 2 Cups Carrots Sliced

  • 1 Cup Celery

  • 1 Onion Chopped

  • 1 Cup Peas Frozen

  • 1 Cup Corn Frozen

  • 2 Cubes Beef Bouillon

  • 1 Bay Leaf


Mix the flour, salt and pepper and coat the meat. Brown your meat that is covered in the flour in your pot with a bit of oil. If you are using the Paula Deen cookware it is perfect as I can do it all in the one pot. Once browned add your water and heat to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 2 hours. Add the balance of your ingredients. Simmer until vegetables are soft, approximately 30 minutes.

Cooking tips:

Your stew is too watery.
Mix 1/4 flour in a separate container with 1/2 cup cold water. Mix until smooth. Add flour mixture to stew to thicken to a gravy.

Your stew lacks flavour.
Add more beef flavour and salt and pepper to taste.

Your stew is too thick.
In the boil process sometimes you can burn off too much of your fluid. Just add more water but be careful to keep tasting to make sure you haven't lost flavour too.
