Planting Sunflowers In Support Of Ukraine

It is hard for me to see the events that are going on in the Ukraine and not feel empathy for the Ukrainian people. I imagine, people like me, with seeds started in their living room, excited for spring. But in reality, they are running to another country not knowing what will happen with their homes and everything they left behind. This is heartbreaking in 2022! We have the intelligence to use our words and to see that war benefits NO ONE. But sadly, here we are.

I am a peaceful person. I beleive in kindness to nature, to animals and to people. This invasion on peace is hard to get off my brain as I work in the garden.

In an attempt to refocus my energy a bit, I have decided to plant sunflowers in support of Ukraine. I know it has little direct benefit to Ukrainians, but it is what I can do to show support from my little space here in Mississippi.

Sunflowers are Ukraines national flower. And according to a Time Life post they became a symbol of peace in 1996 when Ukraine gave up it's nuclear weapons. So much sad irony here.

I would love for you to join me. Any amount of sunflowers will do. Plant 1 or 1000 whatever you can do and share in supporting Ukraine. If you do not have a lot of space, here are some great container choices from Johnny seeds.
